How long is the Series 66 testing window?
Verified from FINRA, last checked 2026-07-02. Quick answer below, then the full breakdown.
Once you enroll for the Series 66, FINRA opens a 120-day window in which you must schedule and take the exam. If the window lapses, the enrollment (and the $177 fee) is gone and you have to enroll again, so book your Prometric seat early.
Your Series 66 enrollment opens a 120-day testing window:
1. Your firm files Form U4 (or you self-enroll through FINRA's Test Enrollment Services System)
2. FINRA opens a 120-day window
3. You schedule a seat at a Prometric test center (NASAA offers online delivery by accommodation only, so plan on testing in person)
4. You take the exam before the window closes
If the window expires unused, the fee is forfeited and you start over with a new enrollment. Popular metro test centers can book out 2 to 4 weeks in advance, so schedule early even if your target date is near the end of the window.
Most candidates need 4 to 6 weeks of prep, which fits comfortably inside the window. See how long to study for the Series 66.
